Properties and Behavior of Gases
January 5th - January 15th In this unit we will study the physical nature of gases and relate their unique properties to mathematics. In addition, students will use these mathematical relationships to predict behavior and changes that occur in chemical reactions. |

Thermochemistry
December 5th - December 17th
In this unit, we will address many of the concepts of Big Idea #6 such as the role of energy in chemical reactions, enthalpy and heat, the first law of thermodynamics, calorimtery, standard heats of formation, and Hess's law. Lab activities will include Heat of Fusion of Ice and the Heats of Solution as well as Measuring Heat of Reactions. The culminating lab will be an inquiry lab designing hand warmers.

Reactions in Solutions
November 6th to November 25th
In this unit, students will learn how to prepare solutions, determine the concentrations of solutions, how to make dilutions, and how to use solution concentration in stoichiometry. Lab activities include making solutions, dilutions, and titration. Students will be able to determine type of reactions, write net ionic equations and balance chemical equations for oxidation-reduction reactions.
